Description On offer in this auction is a unique opportunity for a serious hockey collector, NHL historian, researcher, or scholar to acquire a complete fifteen (15) year run from 1952 to 1967 of vintage golden era ‘THE HOCKEY NEWS’ newspapers all from the pre-1968 ‘Original Six’ era in near mint (NM)condition!! This run encompasses 525 consecutive issues from Volume 6, Issue 1 of October 4, 1952 through to Volume 20, Issue 35 of September, 1967. Each yearly volume commenced with the publication of the first issue during the first week of October, with publishing continuing on a weekly basis during the season before the last five issues monthly issues during the off-season from May to September.   As well, I have included approximately 200 additional copies of 'The Hockey News' spanning the 1950's through to the late 1980's. This additional collection contains only a few from the 1950's (including one issue from 1951), with most issues from the 1970's into the mid 1980's. The condition of this add-on lot is variable, but if I remember correctly, all the papers are intact with all the pages present. You can see this additional collection of 'THN' in the last scan below.   I personally and painstakingly amassed this collection of choice vintage copies of ‘THN’ over a number of years, always looking for the highest quality issues I could find. Every offered issue has every page (all the page edges and corners are clean and sharp), and the condition is about as fine as one could ever hope for or expect for fragile newspapers ranging in age from 40 to 55 years. Outside of toning of the newsprint stock (which is lighter than expected as the papers were always stored away from direct sunlight in my dry, smoke-free basement), flaws are minor. There are a few minor incidences of small tears, rips, a small border piece missing, a filled-in crossword, or other minor marks. As well, about five of the issues have been slightly trimmed.   I have carefully maintained the high condition of the collection by always storing the papers unfolded and flat, and by investing over $750.00 to store each individual issue in clear archival quality Mylar re-sealable sleeve/bags, unique in having the adhesive strip on the back of the bag and NOT on the back of the flap, allowing for the safe removal of the newspaper from the bag without the risk of the paper sticking to the strip on the back of the flap.     Each issue is filled with feature stories, exhaustive statistics and line scores of every NHL game, and similar coverage of every minor and semi-pro league you can think of (AHL, WHL, USHL, ECHL, etc) and most importantly valuable coverage of Canadian Junior ‘A’ hockey, with an emphasis on the Ontario ‘OHA’ Junior League. it's really fascinating and reading the junior hockey exploits of such HOF's as Frank MAHOVLICH, Bobby HULL, Dave KEON, Bobby ORR, etc, etc!! The list is virtually endless!!   Complete yearly runs of vintage ‘ORIGINAL SIX’ THN’s are decidedly rare and desirable. The offering of the complete 15-year run is positively unique. At the B-I-N price of $2,850.00, each individual vintage near mint issue is only $5.42!!
