Description
Muhammad Ali The Incredible 1965 Lampo - BGS 8.5 This listing is for what is perhaps the card with the greatest potential of any card in the hobby. At present, it is only held back by awareness within the general public as only the most savvy boxing collectors know of it. It's current price is supported by this small informed group. To date, only a handful of these Italian made gems exist and only one has attained the elite grade of Near Mint + by the most critical grader in the business, Beckett (BGS/BVG). This card is simply unbelievable when you consider that it is over 40 Years old. The subgrades are Centering 9.5, Corners 9, Edges 9.5, and Surface 8. Do the math, this beauty could be a 9 at other grading houses not so harsh on surface. It's already the highest grade ever for this card. It's hard to imagine a card with more explosive potential than this rookie card of the most famous athlete of all-time. Ali stands ahead of even the most popular of athletes. Other cards attempt to lay claim to being Ali/Clay's rookie card but they are either made of thin magazine paper or grossly oversized. This is Clay's rookie and a real trading card with size and stock that resembles a regular card. This card also precedes Ali/Clay's popular 1966 Italian "rookie" which is often sold for thousands of dollars and was made years later. That's a fantastic card and a great investment but there's no comparing this card with others as far as rarity and card quality. One must wonder what it will take for this card to be known among the general public as other legendary cards are? Will it be Ali's death and the inevitable rush into his autographs and short printed items? Maybe. It happened with auto racing's most popular driver and he wasn't anywhere near as popular or historically important as Ali is. Right now, the card is held back only by it's rarity, there just aren't enough available to build awareness. But there is this beautiful BGS 8.5 at a price that only begins to reflect it's potential compared to other less rare cards of famous athletes. You are unlikely to see another like this. *** The Muhammad Ali Rookie Card. The Holy Grail of Boxing Cards!!! ***
