Description
As everyone knows, on October 3rd, 1995, O.J. Simpson was acquitted of murdering his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and after a lengthy and highly publicized criminal trial. Later, both the Brown and Goldman families sued Simpson for damages in a civil trial, and on February 5th, 1997, O.J. Simpson was found liable in that civil trial. As part of that civil court decision, O.J. Simpson's property was seized by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office and sold on behalf of the State Court Receiver appointed to collect the monetary judgments obtained by the Brown and Goldman families. On February 16th, 1999, the auction house Butterfield & Butterfield held an auction to sell the seized property and pay the Goldman and Brown families. I purchased lot #1014 at that auction. This award was one of seven items in that lot. It is a plaque given to O.J. Simpson by Galileo High School (his alma mater) for being the commencement speaker at their 1983 graduation ceremony (Simpson was a 1965 graduate at the school). This wood and brass engraved plaque is approximately 13 1/2" high x 10" wide x 1" thick. Simpson was found guilty on October 3rd, 2008 in Las Vegas for charges associated with trying to retrieve other memorabilia he once owned. Amazingly, this verdict came exactly 13 years to the day after his being acquitted in his murder trial.  I have included photos of the back of the plaque and of the auction catalog from which I originally bid. This item is truly a rare, one-of-a-kind piece of history from arguably one of the most infamous crimes of all time. It is also good to remember that my original payment for the lot that contained this item went to the Goldman and Brown families. Please feel free to e-mail me any questions you may have about this unique item. I do own other items from this lot that I may put on eBay in the near future. Due to the significant value of this item, I require that funds from Paypal are transferred to my bank before the item ships. Alternatively, I would agree to use escrow.com for a secure transaction. Insurance is required ($5) but shipping is free.
