One of the most exciting Negro League offerings in recent memory, this remarkable scrapbook was clearly compiled by someone closely affiliated with the team, as its comprehensive nature and presence of both home and road stubs would attest. We'll begin by encouraging interested parties to visit our Dallas offices if at all possible to explore the voluminous contents in person, though those unable should certainly refer to our online listing where more photography than can be managed in the pages of our auction catalog will be available. The contents document the exploits of the Philadelphia-area club and various other Negro League events from 1922 through 1926, providing dozens upon dozens of one-of-a-kind artifacts that have otherwise been lost to history. Featured on the pages within:1) 1924 announcement card for first Negro League World Series. "Hilldale (Champions Eastern Colored League) versus Kansas City Monarchs (Champions Western Negro League)..."2) 1925 announcement card for second Negro League World Series. "Hilldale vs. Kansas City Monarchs (First Half Winner) or St. Louis Stars (Second Half Winner)..."3) Pavilion ticket, Colored World Series, Maryland Park, Baltimore.Sunday, October 5, 1924.4) Ticket and rain check for 1926 Colored World Series game, Chicago American Giants vs. Bacharach Giants.5) Unused scorecard for 1926 Colored World Series game. 6.5x8.5".6) Announcement card for games vs. "Major League All Stars" and "Connie Mack's Athletics." 1923.7) Nineteen monthly schedule cards for Hilldale Club and Mutual Association of Eastern Colored Baseball Clubs games.8) 182 tickets to games and stadiums in various venues, mostly Colored leagues and teams. Mainly Hilldale; also Philadelphia Royal Stars, Nicetown Base Ball Club, Philadelphia Terminal Base Ball Club, Germantown Base Ball Club, games at Shibe Park vs. Connie Mack's Athletics, etc. Each is carefully glued to the album pages, and usually notated nearby with details. Many have date marked on stub by hand.9) Over 450 clipped newspaper box scores, dated by hand, of most Hilldale games during this period of time.10) Over 175 handwritten lines of each Hilldale game with day, date, opponent, score, battery, etc.11) Various other clippings relating to African-American athletes and celebrities. The leatherbound book measures 9.5x15", and the pages are a bit brittle, but the contents remain in remarkably strong condition, surely all well within acceptable range for a scrapbook of this era. One must assume that the vast majority of the hundreds of individual pieces within are the only surviving examples, bringing the book into the realm of "priceless" for the serious Negro League collector. Guide Value or Estimate: $10,000 - $20,000.Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 100-110 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 22.50% Buyer's Premium with a $9 minimum Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Auctions. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Auctions, and all other information should be considered preliminary.
