Although Hogan was known as one of the greatest drivers in the game's history, the same was never said about his putting, and it was a skill upon which he worked feverishly in an attempt to improve. To be fair, most of his problems with the short game resulted from damage to one of his eyes suffered in a 1949 automobile accident, complicating his ability to accurately assess depth. So for the bulk of us who likewise struggle with our short games, what could be more appealing than a putter owned and operated by this icon of the American links? It comes to us directly from a former staffer at Hogan's home course, the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and a sticker with Hogan's name and "Colonial C.C., Ft. Worth, Texas" printed upon it rings the upper shaft, as all clubs stored at the Colonial were marked. The club head is stamped with Hogan's "B.H." initials. The putter shows fine use and is accompanied by a letter from the consignor. Hogan's red leather club head cover is also included. Note that another Hogan putter realized just over $20,000 in our May 2007 Signature Auction, and this is unquestionably a superior example.
