The University of Oregon Webfoots (later Ducks) won this first edition of the NCAA Basketball Tournament 46-33 over Ohio State's Buckeyes. The game was played at Patten Gymnasium on the Northwestern University campus before a crowd of several thousand. Oregon deployed a zone defense and fast break offense patterned by Hall of Fame Coach Howard Hobson. Known as the "Tall Firs", Oregon was led by 6'8" center Virgel "Slim" Wintermute, forwards Laddie Gale and John Dick (both 6'4") and guards Bobby Anet and Wally Johnson (both 6'0"). Each player on the team hailed from towns within a 200-mile radius of the Oregon campus at Eugene. These modest programs were distributed at the game. This game program is believed to be one of the few known originals in existence. Key item for any vintage collection.   CONDITION/AUTHENTICITY:  An outstanding original example of this historical item. This program is from the Seller's personal collection of vintage basketball material. Seller purchased the item several years ago from a Sotheby's/SCP memorabilia auction. For that auction, the program was listed as "Near Mint" condition. Collateral, provenance-related material  will be available to the winning Bidder upon request. The program is a simple, single fold format measuring 6"x9" folded. There is no writing or marking to any of the four pages. There is no discoloration from aging, storage, or handling. Original paper gloss--no fading. Corners are sharp; edges are smooth.
